In order to cross the Iguaçu River, in 1891 Galdino Chaves built a ferry that surpassed in quality in relation to the previous vessels. This fact gained fame and became reference to the locality, originating in this way the name of the municipality.
According to the IBGE, Balsa Nova has the estimated population of 12,787 Inhabitants. In addition to the natural beauties, the visitor can still cool off with a bath in the Parrots River. It is worth checking!

Devonian Area of Environmental Protection
Located in the second plateau of Paraná, the APA of the Devonian Escarpa protects 70% of the area of the municipality, totally involving the district of São Luiz do Purunã.
Devonian Iconofossis of Saint Luiz of Purunã
In the impressions of the rocks of this geological site it is possible to observe biological activities of invertebrates, produced approximately 400 million years ago. Tombado in 2012 as Cultural Heritage, the site is an outcrop of the Furnas Formation and has been visited by tourists, paleontologists, geologists and university students for decades.
Recanto dos Parrots
Located on the banks of the BR-277, between the municipalities of Balsa Nova and Palmeira, the site has wooded areas, leisure facilities, as well as natural pools formed by the damming of the waters of the Rio dos Papagaios.
The site also houses the centenary bridge, considered a national engineering monument with its two arches in the central span, being totally built in stone masonry. Declared in 1973 as Historical and Artistic Heritage, is also known as Dom Pedro Bridge, for having its construction authorized by the then Emperor Dom Pedro II. Besides visiting the beauties of the place, taking a beautiful river bath is a great request!
Nook of Arches
Home to the famous Cachoeira do Alemão, the nook is in the region of Tamanduá's historical fields, being the only place for camping in the region. For tourist comfort, it is possible to use the structure composed of barbecue, swimming pool, snack bar and games room, besides enjoying a good fishery.
HOW TO ARRIVE
Located 50 km from Curitiba, it is possible to travel from the capital to Balsa Nova through Rodovia do Café and PR 510. Other access options are BR-277 and BR-376.
WHERE TO STAY
In the middle of nature, the tourist can rest and also have fun with the activities available in the inns and farm hotel, located in the district of São Luís do Purunã.
GASTRONOMY
If you like the culinary excellence, the city's options will please your palate. With references in the Minas Gerais cuisine, the rustic chicken, carreteiro rice, tropeiro beans, farofas, feijoada, polenta and cassava are present in most menus. It is also possible to taste the typical dishes of the region such as the rib on the ground fire, roasted lamb and pine nut-based delicacies. If you are looking for something more classic, some restaurants still offer contemporary food and pasta.
